what "ADS" meaning for ATV?

"Each ADS will represent three ordinary shares"----what is the different between ADS and ordinary share? thnaks!

"Acorn International, a Chinese marketing and manufacturing firm that sells through infomercials, priced its 7.7 million ADSs at $15.50 each, a 15% premium on the midpoint of the $12.50 to $14.50 range, on Wednesday evening. Each ADS will represent three ordinary shares. Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank were the bookrunners on the deal. The stock is expected to begin trading on the NYSE under the ticker "ATV" on Thursday."
