1. If the court allows you to talk to the cop before the trial, you should do it. Usually, the cop will give you a reduced fine.
2. If you want to play the hard ball, then request the cop to present the certificate of the instrument he used to clock your speed. It is mandatory that the cop must calibrate his instrument periodically. If he failed to show you the certificate, the judge will rule you win.
3. If the cop doesn't show up in the court, you will win automatically (there might some exceptions such as he is assigned with special task).
