I might try:

1. Grandually reduce his playing time.
2. Spend more time with him (watching movies, playing cards, chess)
3. More outdoor activities (sports, biking, shopping, library)
4. Share his achievements in school and encourage him do more execise.
5. Watch out parent's bad habits and beheavior.
