I think the post did not say whether the kids were near sight or far sight. The vision test results just tell you what the kid’s vision should be. A severe far sight can also results in a bad vision either in seeing far or near. You are right, in normal development, most kids should be far sight, but because they have a very power accommodation that can compensate the far sight, they can see well in near too. The vision test is not very precisely in the young kids. Many facts can affect the results, some times is just because the kid is not at good mood. The important thing is that you need to know if they have refractive error. Severe refractive errors (include myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism)can not focus a clear object right onto the fovea and affect the visual development. So it is better to ask an optometrist to give them a refractometry.
