Let me add a few words in this area. If your goal is to do real research, you should stay in the US, provided that you can find a research position in a university or a government lab or an industrial lab.
After a while, if they believe you are only using 1/3 of your energy to perform your duty, then, you can take out 1/3 of your time (such as summer time is you are in a university) to become some kind of director in a Chinese university, so that you can supervise others to do real research.
If you are a fresh Ph.D. and want to do real research, most Chinese universities are not the place to be (exceptions exist). Most professors there are more like business people, aimed at getting grants and pay themselves a percentage out of the grants.
