can not hold oil pressure after engine shuts off. the lifter is minor leaking when no oil pressure the oil in it is forced out by valve spring and while engine running pressure oil is pumped in it making it expand to compensate the valve gap and elimilates the noise away. it takes several minuter to expand the lifter. hth.
