Chinese Parents

Just want to give you an example about the difference between a Typical Chinese parent and a white parent.

Our state gives 8th grade a standard test. It includes 5 subjects and each kid's grade is ranked as Distinguished, Above Mastery, Mastery, Partial Mastery, and Novice.

Today, me, my boss (Ph.D. UC Barkerly) and his boss (Ph.D. V. Tech) went out for lunch with others and came back in one car. My boss (we are neighbors) asked me about how my son did on this test. I said "very dispointed" and "we are talking to techers about him stay in school after class to get extra work". My boss said "that is too bad, my D got Distinguished in one subject, Above Mastery in two others, and rest in Mastery. We are very happy". His boss said "that is great, my S only got three in Above Mastery and two in Mastery". "What happened?", he asked me.

"Well, he got one in Above Mastery, missing the Distinguished by two points." I said. "What about the other four?", they asked. "All in Distinguished", I said, "but I am dispointed that he did not get all five in Distinguished as expected."
