some people after going through hardship becomes bitter. Some people become thankful and treasure life more. What a blessing to have such a wonderful mom in your life.
I once met a Jewish gentle man, who was the only one in his family that survived the Holocoust(?). He was so full of life, and happy, I could not tell he had been through so much at all.
BTW, my kid would go to that lady(if I didn't get a chance to stop him) and say,"What are you eating? Is it yummy?" :-)
