of Zhuge Liang.
1) Two way of attacking Wei is very viable and necessary. This way, it can also make Wei to defend on 2 sides. Thus, the strategy of Zhen and Qi will show its potential here.
2) Zhuge Liang always maintain his stance on ally with Wu against Wei and if Guan Yu put down his pride a little and did so, then he wouldn't have died so and cause Liu Bei to launch that massive attack on Wu which crippled Shu. Wu could also help Shu attack Wei and cause Wei to defend 3 places if Guan Yu have a better relationship with Wu.
3) If Zhuge Liang try to take Jie Ting back from Zhang He, then 司马懿's main army would have push through and flank or surround Liang. Even if he manage to take back Jie Ting and fight off 司马懿's main army, he will not have the momentum nor the resources to continue attacking Wei. He would have withdraw as well. So he made a wise decision to retreat to cut his losses after the loss of Jie Ting.
4) 司马懿 know Liang is good at strategy and tactics. Himself fallen to many such tactics by Liang. The only real weakness Liang have is that his resource support is poor therefore why go out and lose to Liang while you can wait Liang out by just defending? This way, he is like that famous 80 years plus Zhao general defending against the Qin army before. 司马懿 send his request to battle to his emperor in the end is his way to calm his own army down from Liang's taunting. He did this as a last resort since only a direct order from the emperor can control the emotions of his army. Liang knows this and so should all of us who knows some tactics. The old saying of "general outside fighting, don't have to accept emperor's orders" is all too familiar right? No one heard requesting battle order to a ruler that far when they are using horses to send the request. Liang knows this and he is staying for the long haul as well. Too bad he died of sickness though.
