I do not think market has formed a top yet. Even if it is forming one, I would say it has not reached the top, quite far from that by TA, I would say.
You need to learn how to control risk to be able to keep profitable in a long term. However, risk control does not mean switching between long and short based upon daily movements.
To company with great earnings, market is giving decent rewards. I feel market is raising the bar than previous years, but only a little bit. I would put more weights on "value" rather than "expectation".
