Here is my suggestion

First of all, the traffic ticket has little to do with your insurance settlement with the person you hit. I guess your ticket cites you for following people too close, or drive too past. Your ought to go to the court, not to claim you are innocent but to give some explanation to reduce the penalty. You may end up with some good suprise. Your goal is to get NON-moving violation to avoid future insurance premium increase. The best situation is that the cop does not show up, then you automatically win the case. Or you can make deal with the cop prior to the trial. The cop him/herself may have the right to reduce the charge. Best luck.
