灰色调是因为整部作品的基调其实是悲观的。这两个人自杀其实不是因为追求爱情，

而是因为厌倦了人生。 就像他们婚外恋，其实也不是因为追求爱情，而是对本来生活的一种逃避。

追求爱情和逃避现实，在表现上来看是一样的，但从基调来说是不一样的。前者是乐观的，后者是悲观的，所以只有以死收场。这部作品其实不是鼓励大家去婚外恋然后去殉情，不是赞扬爱情，而是描述无可奈何的人性和人生。
