I agree with you. Children learn from their parents. My son is a strong willed kid too. I spent lots of time to play with him. When he throw tantrums, I'll ask him to calm down and let him know that we can not talk until he has a calm body. Repeatedly tell him to use his words to express his desire, cry and tantrum can not get what he wants. He changed a lot recently. Parent intervention is very important to children's behaviou problems.
