God is a dis-placer. Once He occupies that part of your soul, no body or a thing can get in, not another human being, not money, not fame, not kitchen-god, not ...
Then, you are free. Otherwise, you are a slave of someone or something, whether you realize it or not.
Of course, you can say being free is too hard, and I want to be a slave of my choosing. That's OK too, but at least you are conscious of your choice.
Even if you reach this point, you are still a slave, of your own unconscious mind. Do you need to be aware of it when it controls your daily actions? Do you need to be free from it? Are you still you if you are free of it? Hard questions.
But once God is in His seat, the other things will fall into their proper place. Your child will be calmer and happier.
