National merit finalist 需要SAT+ essay 吗? 还是只要SAT就可以?

孩儿拿到semifinalist, 但是没有SAT成绩. 学校希望我们去考. 我们申请大学不需要这个成绩, 因为已经有ACT成绩. 我们考SAT可以只考SAT, 不考essay 吗? 谢谢
