A post-Match Day summary of medical specialties

Last Friday, all five graduating MD kids of a small town got the matches of their desires: Dermatology(girl), ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Clinical Genetics(girl), and Orthopaedic Surgery.

From at least a year ago, there were intensive discussions on how to choose a specialty that fits one's life style and can maximally protect one's financial freedom from increased aggressions by the insurance and government establishments.

Hence, they dropped Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurological Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Anesthesiology, ...

Yes, some of their residency programs last as long as seven years--not including the fellowship. But these kids are happily prepared to pursue their chosen careers. And the two girls and a boy of the five are planning their weddings too!
