First of all, you did the right thing to stand up for your daughter. You score in my book! However, I do believe there is another simple and effective way to do it, right on the spot. You can say clearly and loudly to your daughter, "Grace, what is your question?" I am sure you will command that staff's attention, and turn to her confidently, "Lisa, could you answer her question?" And I am sure you will gain much more genuine respect.
