SunTrust isn't the only company that forces their employees to sign illegal or outrageous non-competes, or severance packages. Employees for the most part are commodities these days, and in chasing the almighty profit no matter what the means are, companies will do it.
Who's to stop them? Obama? Congress? hardly. Until some brave employee who has the balls to find a lawyer, pay the retainer, throw away his career, and risk losing the case and paying SunTrust's attorney fees, the bank will get away with it. Companies know this- they have deeper pockerts and use fear and intimidation to strongarm employees.
Don't want a severance? Ok don't since this,.. and by the way you are fired. No go hire an attorney and even if you win, we'll appeal this and tie you up for years in court. Plus who will hire someone that sued their employer.
