Depend on the goal of "推":

If 推 is for the kid's benefit, 推 is love, 不推 is lazy and selfish; if 推 is for the parents' benefit, 推 is selfish, 不推 is love.

Teaching kid is the responsibility of every parent (including animals). Even animals have to teach their baby how to hunt.
