声明: 我的二个孩子木有上常春藤。 如果您想要听藤爸藤妈的,请您绕道走.
Looking at the profile of all top applicants, you will see all have very high test scores, near 4.0 GPA, sports, leadership, all kind of E/C. So, how do your kid differentiate them from that crowd - their unique essay!!!!
Using their essay, they should be able to tell the admission officer who they are and why they are the kind of students the school should have.
Many times, the parents can't take that. They want to use so called "50 Successful Harvard Application Essays" to mold their kids into what commonly regarding as "good". But "good" here is not good, "unique" here is good!!!
Hopefully by now all will agree that parents should allow kids to write whatever subject they want. How about the language, you ask.
It could be just me but my kids' English is way better than mine.
Here is what I would give to all parents: By the starting of 11th grade, you the parents should know who is the best Englisg teacher at the school. Who has most experiences in preparation of application essay. Make sure your kid take his/her class at 12th grade. You could then beg the teacher to help your kids.
I learnt this from my daughter. She made such an effort to be the "sweet heart" of their AP english teacher. That teacher had tears in her eyes when we met at parents/teacher conference.
When my DD received her Yes package from Stanford, the admission officer wrote a note on the official letter - saying how her essay about her essay made her stand out etc.
