Here is my understanding on how.

In your visa application form, there is one item “1.7 Former nationality,” if you fill in “China” then they will consider you  美籍華人.  Of course, you can’t fill “China” for your kids who born in USA.  That’s why realblue said “昨天带中国签证的护照收到了。果然俺是两年，孩子是一年。But two year ago, when I applied  visa for me and my kids, all of us got 2 year multiple entry visa.  I guess that if you apply visa with your kids, you would be fine.  However, next year I may have to apply visa for my kids only. In that case, it may really depending on visa consult as http://www.visamailservice.com  website said “2 Year Multiple Entry visa is mainly for Chinese-Americans and it is the visa Consult that makes the final decision.” But I will call Easy & Express USA, Inc later today at [phone] to see whether or not they can help me to get two year visa for my kids because they seem to be very familiar with Chinese Embassy's visa consult.
