My personal experiences are that the percentage of ABC going for Ph.D. is much lower than CBC. Both my kids wanted to do Ph.D. when they were in Junior high. Now in college, none of both wants to do Ph.D.

It is your money so you decide to pay or not. One thing I could tell you is that student at S could make some significant $$ working on campus. They pay something like $15 ~ 17/hour. At one time, my DD has 4 jobs and she could still carry a full load.

You might already know this- S must have 40% of the student body from California. So the AR for CA student is much higher than the overall 7%.

Lastly, if you don't apply, you will never get in. What not apply first, you could always choose not attend after admission.
