One reason that it is difficult for parents to have "foreigner" friends is: different cultural background. For example, when your American co-worker quotes some movie dialogue that he watched when he is 10, you would have no idea what he is talking about; while other co-workers might laugh out of their chairs.

This problem won't exist for the kids growing up here though.
