Ask him why.

A friend told me that he started calling his parents by names instead of "mom"/"dad" in middle/high(?) school, just because, he heard his parents commenting how not right another kid did that :-O (He is a good son, respects and loves his parents dearly.) I feel teenagers sometime just do things to annoy parents.
