My D is in 3rd grade, and it is the first year that she was admitted into school district's GATE program. Of course, it is a pleasant surprise. My dad suggests to give her a prize.
I normally don't buy present for no reason, and they are still young and there have not been any major achievement to celebrate yet. I don't support the idea to give money for household work either. Normally I try to make them to behave and accumulate points to win a prize, to show the progress.
However, this achievement(GATE) is pretty significant. So I am debating if I should buy a gift for her. What about in the future? Especially if they are going to get scores starting from 4th grade?
I don't know if it is a good thing or not to associate good academic achievement directly with material prize.
