As I previously disclosed, this boy's family is not "equal door" to us. A couple weeks ago, his father lost his job as a contactor labor. Their whole family of 4 kids relies on his mom's after school tuitoring income.
I was kind enough to take him out for a good lunch last weekend and let him stay in our house for the afternoon. He would have to cut firewood for the winter. As he was talking out kids, I lectured them about the situation. "You see" I said "his father did not get an advanced degree but has four kids". "So" I added "you all need to study hard now and get an advanced degree". To show my care, I gave the kid a really nice bottle of XO to take home to his father.
It turned out, the kid told his parents what I said. They got into an argument and father committed suicide after drinking the whole night. Now, they are suing me for all the medical expenses (he did not take enough dose of sleeping bills) plus emotional damages. The county DA even charged me with allowing a minor to carry alcohol.
While I do have an umbrela insurance to cover the $ if I lost the case. Why should I be liable for this mess? Hard to be a good person these days.
