Coach your kids to be leaders
I just attended a presentation given by my daughter school's former principle.
She strongly recommended this book:

1) Visionary
2) Good communicator (to comunicate the vision)
3)Good people skills
4)Good Character
5) competent
I gained a deeper understanding about "competent" today. Be competent (simliar to comptetive) means working harder on area which may not be your natural (inborn) strength so you could be competent on that area and achieve your goal.
6) Bold /risk-taking
Shoot on the moon. If you fail, you will land on a star.
7) Servant atitude.
I'd like to stress on this point. If you think you should just "lead", you are not a leader at all. So leaders are servant, not masters. Your goal is to achieve something, not to "rule" on people.
