Comparison of Talent Densities in top Startups and Unicorns:

大厂不是科技公司的首选。责任越重,创造价值越高的职位才是最吸引人才的职位。Jane Street和Citadel的科技界对应的是顶部early, mid stage startups,投行对应的是硅谷大厂。

The pool composed of 10 early stage, 20 mid stage, 20 late stage, 10 giga stage companies.

In the world of the 2026 Enterprise Tech 30 (ET30), "talent density" has replaced headcount as the ultimate status symbol. While every tier is competitive, the consensus among venture capitalists and engineering leaders is that the Early and Mid-stages currently hold the highest concentration of "10x" engineers.

Here is the breakdown of engineering strength by tier based on the 2026 report:

1. The Winner: Early & Mid-Stage (The "Talent Density" Sweet Spot)

This is where you find the highest average engineering strength. These Companies are the current magnets for top-tier talent.

• Why they are the strongest: These teams are tiny (25–50 people). Every single engineer must be a "force multiplier" capable of building systems that would have required a 200-person team five years ago.

• The "Pedigree" Signal: The 2026 ET30 report notes that founders and early engineers in these stages are coming directly from elite "labs" like OpenAI (14 founders) and Google (35 founders).

• The "Agentic" Shift: Engineers here aren't just writing code; they are building "Agentic" systems. This requires a rare blend of deep infrastructure knowledge and LLM orchestration that is currently the most sought-after skill in the world.

2. The Specialist: Late Stage (The "System Builders")

The engineering strength here is still elite, but the focus shifts from "discovery" to "reliability."

• Why they are strong: Engineers at companies like Vercel or Glean have to solve "Giga-scale" problems—how to keep a system running for millions of enterprise users without a second of downtime.

• The Trade-off: While the top 10% of engineers here are arguably as strong as those in the Early stage, the average strength begins to dilute slightly as they hire "functional" engineers to maintain and iterate on existing products.

3. The Outlier: Giga Stage (The "Research & Infrastructure" Giants)

This tier has a massive "barbell" distribution of talent.

• The High End: OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX have the strongest specialized engineers in the world (e.g., world-class PhDs in CUDA optimization or aerospace).

• The Average: Because these companies have 1,000+ employees, the "average" engineer is often working on more bureaucratic or specialized maintenance tasks.

• The "Cursor" Exception: Cursor is the anomaly of the 2026 Giga stage. With only ~300 employees and a massive valuation, their engineering strength per capita is likely the highest on the entire ET30 list.
