So my question is how can it be? Most general US public know little history. We don't necessarily know less.

What does that have anything to do with loving American history or it being beautiful or not? Or whether your friends know history or not?

Don't be too quick in using your "reading and comprehension" standard on others. And don't put your comprehension of what I meant into my mouth.
