I knew it was only a matter of time before your employer would see your value and find a way to incentivize you.
Sales is an interesting business.  Most people mistakenly think it’s about pushing the features and value model of the company.  In reality, it’s about building a trust relationship with the prospect.
One of the best ways to build a trust  relationship is to listen and understand what your prospect values (people love to be heard and understood).  Once you know their needs and you know your sales offering well, you can talk about a value model catered to the prospects needs.  If you get good at, the prospect will partner with you to create a value proposition that they feel is mostly their idea.
By the way selling inward is at least as selling outward.  The features and value model you are creating is around you and why the company needs you and should reward you.
Inward or outward, either way, the sale begins with listening to people to understand what they value.  Also, never forget to ask for the sale.
