高助学金的另一面

I see some people 非常嫉妒 that our DD receives a 高助学金. Let me tell you the other side of the story. Wait, let me wipe away my tears first.

As those who have done the process know, schools don't just give you money. They asked for your tax return and full disclosure of you 财产. Some even asked to list the cars you have, when and how much you paid for them. 换句话说, 诚实的我们 really truely need the aid.

Even so 30K for 4 years may seem low to you rich folks. It is a struggle for us to come up with that much cash from current income.

Let me give you one true example. DD's next quarter starts Jan 6th. The airfare on the 4th is much more expensive than 5th. However, if we get the ticket on 5th with multiple stops, she will be tired after 9 hours of flying the day before her new class. The best solution is to buy a ticket for a direct flight on 5th. But we may not have that much money.

Another example, I am having a discomfort - it will not kill me but it is very painful. My insurance topped out for this year. So, instead of taking care of the pain, I will have to wait until next year.

Yes, we have high aid, but we get it because we need it. We live at a lower standard every day, old house, old cars, use only D80 with Sigma lenses rather than D700 with Nikkor lenses. To those who are paying full COA, I am 非常嫉妒 you.
