1976年，叶永青高中毕业。在毕业后的两年内，做过建筑工等； [30]1978年，考入四川美术学院绘画系油画专业； [25]1982年，毕业后留校任教； [20] [29]1991年，作品入选中国当代艺术文献资料展；1992年，获“92中国油画艺术展”优秀奖及首届九十年代艺术双年展优秀奖；1998年，开办上河会馆； [25]2001年，创作布面油画《鸟》； [1]2019年，比利时艺术家克里斯蒂安·西尔万指控叶永青30年不断抄袭其作品。 [2] [18]同年3月7日，针对网上反映叶永青抄袭一事，四川美术学院发布声明并调查。 [3]3月18日，叶永青在朋友圈否认“抄袭”； [4]2023年8月22日，北京知识产权法院一审判决被诉侵权画作122幅，叶永青立即停止涉案侵权行为，并赔礼道歉，消除影响，向西尔万支付人民币500万元； [13-16]2025年1月23日，《法治日报》第8版刊发一则叶永青署名的“道歉声明”，称尊重法院判定，诚恳接受批评，检讨教训，并向西尔万致以诚挚的道歉。

Chinese artist Ye Yonqging, whose work is collected by the likes of Bill Gates and Rupert Murdoch, has apologised after Beijing’s Intellectual Property Court upheld a 2023 ruling ordering him to pay Belgian artist Christian Silvain 5 million yuan (US$690,000) and apologise for plagiarism.

Silvain, 75, accused Ye, 67, of plagiarising 87 works of his over the past 25 years, in 2019.

The Belgian artist only found out about the plagiarism after a gallery owner in Amsterdam told him he had seen a “substandard” version of one of his paintings.
