What is 提高班, by the way? Gifted class?

What do these kids do after class? I guess a ton of activities? I can understand that junior or senior high kids need a lot of work on AP and college application. Why 7th grader only sleep for 7 hours? I hope this is rare case instead of common phenomenon...
