1. nothing is absolute -use your judgement 2. children (babies)
1. Nothing is absolute - use your judgment. Parents need to learn to distinguish the reasons for baby's crying. There is only guidelines, no rules. There are other ways parents can comfort the child without picking him/her up under certain situations. Other times yes, you should pick them up.
2. Children (babies) need to learn to self comfort - our pediatrician told us this lesson and we still believe him to be right. However, every family is different and expectations are also different. What works for me may not work for the next person - it's whatever you feel comfortable with in your tolerance level.
3. Our kids were trained from early on (2-3 months) and it worked well. I believe the following: rules/discipline does not equate the lack of love, but blind obedience to any rule is not a smart move. Meanwhile, early introduction of rules and boundaries seem to work better than later introduction in most cases.
