Focus of the question - not which college is better, but

is CMU a great college to consider for a kid (ABC) who is not a competition math kid to have a good experience?  Will they fall into the bottom half of the student body instead of thriving at CMU SCS?

Sorry, I think my previous question is poorly defined.
