下面是US News ranking的组成。几乎60%的项目是和我们讨论的教育完全无关甚至是相反的负指标, 20%是相关但是improperly measured, 只有20%是相关但严重underweighted。

结论:US News College Ranking is totally misleading and highly manipulated. It's nothing more than informercial and have a poisonous impact on college education。

负相关标占30%1,5 这两个基本就是放水指标

不相关指标占 30%3.2(faculty compensation), 4,7,8,9 基本是和教育毫无关系的经济指标

Improperly Measured 20%:2. 唯一和教与质量相关的银子全部依靠Dean和faculty Survey,没任何客观标准

Relevant (20%)3(课堂人数,教授学位,师生比占13%),6 学生标考和GPA只占7%

  1. 22% for graduation and retention rates (增加放水率,降低课程难度, GPA inflation)
    • 17.6% for average six-year graduation rate
    • 4.4% for average first-year student retention rate
  2. 20% to undergraduate academic reputation (This is highly biased toward schools whose graduates prefer academic careers and occuply these positions. The result seriously lacks credibility. This is based on a peer assessment survey [U.S. News asked deans, program directors and senior faculty to judge the academic quality of programs in their field on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding).]
  3. 20% for faculty resources for the 2021-2022 academic year (1/3 of the measure is totally irelevant, like faculty compensation)

    • 3% for percentage of faculty with terminal degree in their field
    • 1% for percentage faculty that is full time
    • 1% for student-faculty ratio
  4. 10% for financial resources per student (overweighted and duplicate)
  5. 8% for graduation rate performance (manipulative, 0 relavence)
  6. 7% for student selectivity for the Fall 2021 entering class (This is one of the most relavent factor, but way underweighted)
    • 2% (for regional schools only) for high school class standing in top 25%
    • 2% (for national schools only) for high school class standing in top 10%
    • 5% for SAT and ACT scores
  7. 5% for graduate indebtedness (Irrelavent and duplicate)
    • 3% for graduate indebtedness total
    • 2% for graduate indebtedness proportion with debt
  8. 5% for social mobility (Irrelavent, most students do are not Pell grant receivers)
    • 2.5% for Pell Grant graduation rates
    • 2.5% for Pell Grant graduation rate performance
  9. 3% for average alumni giving rate (Irrelavent to the college education)
