Learn some history,

 

American history, starting with the Revolutionary War (or the French and Indian War.) The events and figures, as well as the ideals. Biography of the major Founders, good for maturity.

When visiting a town/city, find out what happened there 100 or 200 years ago, see the ruins.

Have a connection with the land where they were born. It's not good to feel like a foreigner in land of your birth.

You want your child to be able to tell the ones insinuating that he doesn't belong here, "I know this place better than you do."

Read the Bible, children's version. It's a great equalizer.

Parents who feel belong have children who feel belong.
