This way, they'd appreciate you more. Hopefully, they'll be more grateful. Gratitude can ease a lot of their problems while growing up, and ingratitude makes every problem much worse.

When you are old and infirm, they are more likely to visit because they have been conditioned to feel that you need their help. That connection between feeling good and helping you out will be the drive to come.
