Your child's presence was enough

 

She was honored that your child could come. The company your child provided for her child was worth the expense (in her mind.)

If it'd make you feel better, have your child write a thank-you note to her. Emphasize her kindness and generosity. Reminisce what took place on the trip. Say something about the past friendship with her child, and the future.

Be proud of your child.
