yield protection: when two students are otherwise almost equal, the school picks the one perceived as most likely to come 

Tufts syndrome: among the two students A and B, A is much stronger than B, but A might get into a better school (by popular ranking) than this school and most likely will not come.  Pick B over A (and WL or rejects A).

While all schools practice yield protection, only some do Tufts Syndrome.

Among the T10: UChicago is pretty much the only one does Tufts Syndrome.

Among the T20, Washington U is famed for Tufts Syndrome.
