My son's behavior is exactly like your daughter's. He is going to be in 1st grade next month.

The only thing he is interested and could be focused on for hours is drawing. He treats everything else as playing. Doesn't like to practice piano assignment by the teacher, but likes to play his own "song" on the piano. Enjoys swimming, but doesn't like the drill of doing the swimming exercise. He looks at the books very concentrated, but only looking at the pictures. Love to hear stories at the bed time.
We bought the computer learning program, and found out that he is interested in the moving objects, graphics in the program, not the actually learning part.

I am somewhat worried, but my hu*****and told me that i shouldn't, he told me that my son is like him (my hu*****and didn't do well at school until he was 16, actually he did so poorly that he was in a night school, but caught up with the rest within 2 or 3 years and got into the best university when he gratuated, which shocked all his neighbors).

I don't know what to do, on the one hand, i am worried, but i don't want to force my son to learn (i have tried all kind of method like you did), i think it will have a negative effect. on the other hand, i am worried that he will have low self esteem if he is behind academically.

Some other parents comforted me and told me based on their own experience that some kid just mature later. It is a development thing. Eventually they will probabely catch up.

Could someone here share your own experience?
