It depends on the campus culture and the culture at each fraternity or sorority.  If your kid wants to join one, she or he should already have some idea. Ask your child to weigh the pros and cons for you if you are not sure. 

Don’t join because of peer pressure. Don’t not join because of peer pressure.

There is always a case to be made for or against it.
