But parents need to understand why their children think that way and present counter argument in a way that the children can appreciate its content, not something on a different plain and get summarily dismissed all together.

Everyone wants to matter, children included.  Life is too comfortable.  There is little challenge.  Children find meaning in what school is feeding them.  Herd mentality is another problem.

Parents need to help them separate the issues.  Conflating issues into a mess is one of the tricks the power-hungry employ to produce mass hysteria.
