Hi there - in a word, NO. Google does not pay $150k-$200k per year in base salary for a graduate student new hire.

A graduate student hire at Google can expect a base salary of $109k, plus:

  • annual bonus of $20k
  • annual equity of $31k
  • year one signing bonus of $25k

So, total annual compensation for a new hire grad student is $160k + the $25k signing bonus which is only available year 1.

For another point of perspective, Facebook, one of the highest paying companies for tech talent (see Paysa Salary Rank), pays graduate student new hires a base salary of $131k, plus:

  • $19k annual bonus
  • $34k annual equity
  • year one signing bonus of $39k

Total compensation is $184k, plus the $39k signing bonus which is only available year one and should not be factored in ongoing years.
