At individual level:
For A, the accumulation of value is linear with volume of work got done, 1,2,3,4,5,6, ...,10, ...,100,...
For B, the value is step-wise jumps: 10,20,30,...,100, ...
If you manage people, you want 10 (or 100) type A employee and 1 or 2 type B employee. Have the type B take care of the challenge and/or design new products and process; then train type A to actually do the majority of routine work. Your job is to drink coffee and distribute red-pocket to them, as far as you can secure budgets / sales / etc.
