Sorry, I have to disagree with this.

In Sillicon Valley, UCB has solid reputations, many CEOs and company founders are from there.;HMC has little or no impact here.

To compare Cal with HMC has little bearing on your child's growth,

If he is mature and wanting to take the challenge, both would be fine,

if not, Cal will weed him out just like this competitive society.

 

It is true the faculty student radio is low at 

LAC, that is there selling point. However, the research you are referring to is really field dependent,

and in Computer Science, it is really hard to take any LAC seriously, do they have enough faculty to cover 

all the latest subjects such as deep learning, AI, big data etc; I doubt it. 

 

Your example on P & M vs. Cal shows you draw conclusion too quickly based on tiny or single sample.

Cal out-shines in many metrics including number of Olympians,  in addition to .... you know.
