I would not argue with the teacher, I would not bring this up to the principle.

Instead, I would take this opportunity to talk to the child (never think children are too young to understand things), the society is full of unfair.

Don’t ever expect to get anything by grant. Must study hard/work hard to get what you want.

Be the one to give, not the one to be given.

If you could not be the one to give, then don’t complain that you got less than the others, or got nothing at all.
