瞧这一家子 (2)

When we first met them, the family’s situation seemed dim. The father’s liberal art degree from China would not earn him a living, the mother was a nurse but could not practice without a license and their son just joined them and the only English word he spoke was “Hello”.  

But they had a plan. The mother enrolled in school to keep F1 status while preparing license tests and the father worked to support the family.  

We had doubts about their plan as the mother’s English, we thought, was not strong and the tests were challenging, but she passed the tests, took a job and got green cards for the family. 

When the mother was able to feed the family, the father returned to school to start a new major. While the parents were busy with their plan, they never neglected their son and the boy thrived in school.
