find peers for him.

Whatever math or music, find someone to compete with him. Place him in a good Orchestra to compete for a better seat. Invite group of kids to do math competetion together, I guess peers will solve the problem for most of the kids.They tend to feel bored if there is no credit to do something  over and over. Peers are the best way out
