i did my phd b/c i had to, did not like it at all.  a good part of research are waste of time and money.  maybe smart kid go to mdphd, but that does not make you a great physician, how can u b a good surgeon if u spend half of ur time researching rather than operating, and even when when ur seeing pt, all u think is getting the funding for ur research.  i have seen both side of world.  BTW, a genius kid does not necessary make a good physician.  it is not just about who can take highest score in a test.  in real world pt's life is ur test, and if u fail, someone dies.
